Dear Ms. Jackson:
4 We are writing to express our concerns with regard to the pending decommissioning of the Maine Yankee nuclear plant in _Wiscasset. Maine. As you may know, the board of l: directors of Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company announced Friday that negotiations for a possible purchase of.he plant had failed and they will vote this week to make the closure of the facility periaanent and proceed with decommissioning.
As NRC addresses the issue of decommissioning, we want to make you aware of our firm
. j I belief that public health and safety must be of paramount concern. We are committed to ensuring the well-being both now and in the future of the people of Maine, particularly l j
those who are in close proximity to the tacility.
j We request a meeting with you in September when Congress reconvenes and we are back in Washington, so we can discuss the NRC's role in the oversight of the decommissioning
- process. We intend to closely monitor this situation and work closely with officials of the NRC in the coming months.
