Dear Sir:
This is a request to exempt the two licensed senior operators in our operations crew from parts A,B, and that portion of part E dealing with the records for exempted portions of the operator requalification program, 1986 revision.
There are several reasons why granting this request would not compromise our requalification program. These senior operators not only give the requalification lectures, but also teach courses involving the training of students in reactor operations where some of the material covered includes the subject matter covered in the requalification lectures. These persons confer frequently on matters of reactor operations l
and safety in their capacities of Laboratory Director and Reactor Supervisor. Both persons are members of the Committee on Reactor Operations which reviews and audits the full spectrum of reactor operations. With this constant review and close communication, it seems unnecessary to conduct formal training programs, including lectures for just these two operators.
These senior operators are presently exempt from these same portions of the approved operator requalification program.
When the licensed operating staff is increased beyond the present two senior operators, the requalification program would naturally revert to its full content.
