o SALEM GENERATING STATION MONTHLY OPERATING
SUMMARY
- UNIT NO. 1 APRIL 1987 The unit began the period at 100% power, 1,130 megawatts (.MW) gross, generator output was reduced because #12 heater drain pump was out of service for replacement.
Power was reduced on Saturday, April 4, for maintenance on #11 and #13 condensate pumps.
The unit returned to 100% power late Sunday evening.
Following a Unit 2 trip on Tuesday, April 7, power was reduced to 88% after de-energizing the trip-a-unit protection, as prescribed by procedure.
Further analysis by the Load Dispatcher's Office resulted in a change to the stability curves for the system, which would allow both Salem Unit-1 and Hope Creek to operate at 100% power when Salem Unit 2 is out of service.
Procedure modifications were made to reflect the new information.
The Unit returned to 100% power, 1,150 MW gross late Wednesday after number #12 heater drain pump was returned to service. The unit continued to operate at that level until Wednesday, April 15th, when power was reduced to 72% as a precaution because of a failure of a Potential Transformer (PT) that is used in the backup circuitry for generator out of step protection.
A Unit 2 PT was used as a replacement and the unit returned to 100% power late the same day.
Power was reduced to 77% on Thrusday, April 16, due to a hot spot on the Deans Transmission line.
The unit returned to 100% on Friday, April 17; however, power was again reduced to 70% later the same day due to a 500 KV breaker trip caused by low gas pressure.
The unit returned to 100% power, 1,155 MW on Saturday, April 18, and operated at essentially that power for the remainder of the month, except for a brief period on April 24th when two circulators were out of service.
