This'special report is submitted in accordance with LaSalle Unit 1 Operating License NPF-ll, Appendix A, and LaSalle Unit 2 Operating License, NPF-18,
. Appendix A, Technical Specification 3.7.6 and 6.6.c.

On February 17, 1987, fire door 303 (Auxiliary Building 768') was found' 2
j damaged in the open position. The door was separated on the edges'and would not close on its own. The door was declared inoperable.

Fire door 303 was inoperable for greater than seven (7) days and therefore
[
exceeded the 7-day period allowed by Technical Specification 3.7.6 prior to j
requiring a special report. The inability to acquire a new door with an j
equivalent fire rating required exceeding the 7-day limit. Fire door'303 was replaced with an operable Underwriters Laboratories (U.L.) labeled class A fire door on March 3, 1987.

To assure that the level of fire protection was not decreased during the I
f course of this event, LaSalle met the requirements of Action Statement "a" of Technical Specification 3.7.6 by verifying operable detection on at least.one side of the affected assembly and establishing an hourly fire watch patrol to inspect the affected areas during the time the door was inoperable.
