PURPOSE:

Inordertomakemaximumuseofseismicmarginsmethodologies(NRCandEPRI) in the implementation of the severe accident policy statement (Individual Plant Evaluations for External Events or IPEEE), several issues have arisen j

which may require extensions to the original methodologies. These changes are i

being considered because the seismic margins program was devel ged primarily l

to detennine whether changes in the seismic hazard can be accomodated within the inherent capacity of the original design or whether plant modificatens are necessary. The severe accident policy statement is focused on beyond j

design basis events and the identification of plant specific vulnerabilities, b

The purpose of the meeting is to have the seisniic subcontr.ittee of the External Events Steerino Group meet knowledgable co:. -'iltants who are f amiliar in the development and application of the seismic mailins methodologies in order to discuss the capability of the existing methods +o address the needs posed by IPEEE and the feasibility of extending these metnods to better meet these needs.
