Request for an Extension of Comment Period on Draft Revision 1, NUREG-1409, Backfitting Guidelines (Docket ID NRC-2018-0142)

Subm itted via R egulations.gov Project Number: 689

Dear Ms. Vietti-Cook,

On behalf of its members, the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) 1 appreciates the opportunity to provide comments on the Draft Revision 1 of NUREG-1409, Backfitting Guidelines. The proposed Revision 1 is a substantial modification of NUREG-1409, which has served as a foundational guidance document in the area of backfitting implementation for nearly three decades.

Due to the exigent circumstances surrounding the industrys response to the COVID-19 pandemic, NEI respectfully requests additional time to submit comments on the significant changes proposed in Revision 1 to NUREG-1409. We request an extension of the comment period by ninety (90) days. If this extension is granted, comments would be due on Thursday, August 20, 2020.

If you have questions or require additional information, please contact me at mns@nei.org.

Sincerely, Maggie N. Staiger cc: Timothy Reed, NRR Audrey Klett, NRR 1
