@TENNESSEE VALLEY ACPrHOAITY a CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE 37401 January 4, 1974 40 ggggg PARTN E A S HIP Mr. F. E. Kruesi, Director Directorate of Regulatory Operations Y U.S. Atomic Energy Commission Washington, DC 20545

Dear Mr. Kruesi:

In conformance with paragraph 50.55(e) of 10 CFR 50, this is submitted as an interim report of a possible design deficiency which was initially reported to AEC-DRO Inspector W. S. Little on December 3, 1973. The failure was in connector G9 of elec-trical penetration EF of Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant unit 2, the worst damage occurring at two pins connected to the 480-volt single phase powcr outlet to the control rod drive service platform.

Personnel at the construction site have prepared a report describing the failure and that report is being reviewed by engineers in our Division of Engineering Design. Further inves-tigation is required to determine conclusive'ty the cause of failure.

We expect to submit a final report by February 3,1974.

Very truly yours, J. E. Gilleland Assistant to the Manager of Power 1
