Dear Mr. Seidle:
This letter provides an interim report on a potential 10CFR50.55(e) matter concerning the installation of Vulkene Supreme Cable at Wolf Creek Generating Station. This item was initially reported by Mr. Gene Rathbun of Kansas Gas and Electric Company to Mr. Mike Murphy of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Region IV, on June 20, 1983.
The Vulkene Supreme Cable is uted for safety-related wiring modi-fication work in the Wolf Creek plant. The cable has a tight, nearly invisible wrapping. This wrapping has not been adequately removed in all instances when doing cable termination. Consequently, some equipment which was supposed to be energized was not.
The extent of this concern is believed to be limited to field change work completed by the Wolf Creek Constructor on Class IE motor control centers. Upon subsequent turnover to the KG&E Startup organization, the concern was identified.
This matter is still under evaluation. The status of this evaluation or the resolution of this concern will be reported to you on or before September 30, 1983.
