Subject:

Supplemental report on Reportable Occurrence 76-10, Containment -

purge supply valve excessive leakage during testing ,

I R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, Unit No.1 -

Docket No. 50-244

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

In the March 22, 1976 Reportable Occurrence 76-10, 30-day report, we

' described corrective action to permit proper closing of one of the containment purgo supply valves, and the subsequent satisfactory retesting. We also stated that during the refueling shutdown that was in progress, the valve operator assembly was to be dismantled and inspected with the services of a vendor representative. The vendor representative was on site March 24 for this purpose.

In connection with his inspection of the Henry Pratt 48" purge supply valve, the vendor representative observed its operation, made valve seat retaining segment adjustments and applied lubricant to the valve seat and the operator spring cannister. He observed that the valve seat was in good con-dition and that the disk edge and seat retaining segments were clean and in good condition. He recommended that the valve operator not be dismantled at this time and that a complete inspection be done when the necessary replace-ment parts are available. He stated that the valve would give continued proper service in the meantime.

The valve was leak tested satisfactorily before unit heatup began in the first part of April. The valve was leak tested ~ satisfactorily a second time May 3, before heatup after a unit outage to plug a Icaking steam generator tube.

Two additional copies of this letter are enclosed to conform to the  !

original submittal of Reportable Occurrence 76-10, 30-day report.  !

Very truly yours ,  !
