SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-272; 50-311 INSPECTION NOS. 83-08; 83-07 Public Service Electric and Gas Company is in receipt of your letter with the enclosed Notice of Violation dated April 5,
1983.
This letter constitutes our response to that document.
Because PSE&G considers any security infraction to be a matter.
of serious concern, immediate remedial action was taken as noted in your letter and documented in Attachment A.
Attachment B is our request and rationale for a reduction in severity level.
In accordance with 10 CFR 73.21 of the NRC's regulations, docu-mentation of security measures for the physical protection of special nuclear materials and cartain plant equipment vital to the safety of production or utilization facili, ties is, deemed to be Safeguards Information.
Each person who produces, receives, or acquires Safeguards Information is required to ensure that it is protected against unauthorized disclosure.
The attach-ments to this letter have been determined to contain Safeguards Information; therefore, they must not be released for public disclosure.
