O NIAGARA M0 HAWK POWER CORPORATION NINE MILE POINT NUCLEAR STATION UNIT #1 NARRATIVE OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE January 1983 The Station operated during the month of January 1983 with a monthly availability factor of 0.0% and a net design electrical capacity factor of 0.0'5.

The Station was shut down March 19,_1982, for a scheduled maintenance outage. The Station remains shut down due to Reactor Recirculation S, stem piping cracks found during Vessel Hydro on March 23, 1982.

CLASS I WORK - hAINTENANCE - JANUARY 1983 WR #19647 - Removed Torus covers for inspection by I6C.

  1. 19650 - Replaced flex gasket on #121 MS Drain Tank IcVel column.

  1. 18696 - Welded pipe caps on valve #51-44-51-45 6 51.46.
  1. 17765 - Placed new bonnet gasket - repaired small defect in gasket surface and placed in service (Layup Valve).
  1. 17241 - Removed valve from line, cleaned and lubed pivot pins, replaced 3 studs and placed back in service (Valve 38-12).
  1. 19110 - Lapped seat in CRD - Valve 1003 reassembled and tested OK.
  1. 19794 - #11 Condensate Transfer Pump Replaced impeller wear rings and both Bearing Gasket Packing.
  1. 19123 - Adjusted stroke on Valves 39-13 6 14
  1. 19124.- Adjusted stroke on Valves 39-11 6 12
  1. 18616 - Repscked #11 RRP Discharge Bypass Valve.
  1. 17235 - Repacked #12 RRP Discharge Bypass Valve.
  1. 18615 - Replaced valve stem - new flex gasket and repacked #13 RRP Discharge Bypass Valve.
  1. 18614 - Replaced valve stem - new ficx gasket and repacked #14 RRP Discharge Bypass Valve..
  1. 18613 - Replaced valve stem - new flex gasket and repacked #15 RRP Discharge Bypass Valve.
  1. 17479 - Replaced drain valve on #11 Inst. Air Receiver Tank.

CLASS I WORK - INSTRUMENTATION 6 CONTROL - JANUARY 1983 WR #19571 - Liquid Poison Tank temp. controller check and calibrate.

(Repaired terminal run and calibrated).

  1. 19585 - #11 Torus Lev. Recorder blowing fuses.

(Replaced transformer and recalibrated.)

  1. 18203
  1. 12 Inst. Air Comp. Air Valves leaking.

(Rebuilt both unloading solenoids.)

O CLASS I WORK - ELECTRICAL MALNTENANCE - JANUARY 1983 N1-MST-M1 - 125 VDC batteries, cell specific gravities and battery voltage.

WR #19710 Liquid Poison Tank fleater - replaced blown fuse and associated wiring WR #19512 Control Room Emergency Vent Fans 11 and 12 - checked motor amps and volts.

MODIFICATIONS - JANUARY 1983 Mod. No. NI 80-01 Major Order #1851 Mod. On Site Technical Support Center This modification included the establishment of an onsite Technical Support Center within the Administration Building on Ele. 277, complete with associated equipment - phones, computer terminal, TV camera system and ventilation system.

This modification was completed in accordance with NUREG 0578 guidelines.

Failure of the TSC and associated equipment will not result in the inability to safely shutdown or in a significant release of radioactivity.
