THIRD INTERIM REPORT Description of Deficiency This deficiency concerns 1-inch and 1/2-inch globe valves which are installed in the Auxiliary Feedwater System in accordance with TVA design drawings (3BWO418-CA series). The weight and end-to-end dimensions of those valves exceeded the system piping seismic analysis limits of TVA design drawings 3BA0005-00-01 and 3BA0006-00-1 (typical drawing). The valves were purchased as industry standard without maximum weights or lengths being specified. TVA did not identify this deficiency during the review of the purchase specifications.
Interim Progress The affected valves have been replaced on unit 1.
Unit 2 drawings have been altered to reflect the new valve details. These details have been sent to TVA's Civil Engineering Branch for seismic qualification. The 3BWO418-CA series drawings were issued August 16, 1982, with the required changes. TVA's final report will address whether the new valve details are seismically qualified.
