DVR Number:

LaSalle County Station:
Unit 1 Ill. Event
Description:
Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) effluent pH of 3 8 S.U. on grab sample of 03MAY82, analyzed on 03MAY82.
This was an N.P.D.E.S. permi t violation, exceeding permi t limits of 6.0 - 9 0 S.U.
for pH.
IV.
Probable Consequences of Occurrence:
Safe operation of the unit was maintained at all times and the health and safety of the public.vas not affected by this event.
The WWTF was shutdown immediately follow'ng notification of analytical results.
This is not a frequent occurre1ce.
V.
Cause:
It was originally suspected to be due to acids used on floor cleaning prior to painting.
Further investigations have shown an acid drain line used in Makeup Demin. regenerations was leaking. This acid was then flushed to the M.U.D. Clean Sump, 0WM05, and subsequently transferred to the WWTF without further treatment.
VI.
Corrective Action:
The acid drain line has been taken out of service and repairs are pending. The WWTF equalization tank and clearwell have been neutralized.
The M.U.D. Clean Sump, OWM05, has been neutralized.
The floor drain near the acid drain line has been plugged to prevent further occurrences of this type.
