MR. BEVILL:
Please describe the division of responsibility between the Office of the Inspector General and the Office of Investigations? Please show how this division of 4
responsibility is derived from the enacted legislation?
COMMISSIONER CARR:
The Office of the Inspector General is a statutory office which is responsible for investigating NRC employees and its contractors and for audits of NRC programs. The Office of Investigations is a Comission created office which is responsible for investigating NRC licensees, permittees, applicants L
and vendors. The specific responsibilities of each office are set forth in 10 CFR Sections 1.21 and 1.27.
l This division of responsibility is essentially the same as existed prior i
to the creation of the Office of Inspector General by the Inspector General i
L Act Amendments of 1988. This allocation of responsibility was originally established to apportion responsibility between the Office of Investigations and the Office of the Inspector and Auditor which existed prior to the creation of the Office of Inspector General.
However, this division of responsibility is consistent with the Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended.
