Docket No 50-277
Dear Mr. Stolz:
Our letter of September 4, 1981 requested, in part, delay of approximately three weeks for implementing the use of the General Electric Company ODYN code for analysis of pressurization transients for Peach Bottom Unit 2.
Thia schedule change was requested to allow relief from ODYN implementation since the Peach Bottom Unit 2 Reload 5 analysis will be submitted shortly in suppor t of U.iit 2's refueling outage scheduled for February 19, 1982.
The U.S.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission's letter of December 29, 1981, "ODYN Code Reanalysis Requirements (Generic Letter 81-37)", advises that delay of ODYN analyses until the next refueling is a reasonable approach for those plants which can be demonstrated to have scram times bounded by the option B scram time distribution since the option B calculation would be expected to be less limiting than the previously utilized REDY code.
For such plants, the December 29 letter also requests that licensees submit to NRC their conclusion that option B is applicable to their plant.

w Mr. J.
F.
Stolz Page 2 On December 30, 1981, Unit 2 scram times were evaluated and shown to be bounded by the Option B scram time distribution.
This evaluation is available at Peach Bottom for intpection.
In addition, as stated in our September 4, 1981 letter, Unit 2 is undergoing power coastdown operation.
Unit 2's current reactor power output capability is approximately 87% of rated which provides significant margin to the reload safety analysis governing the present cycle of operation.
Based on the above, it is not appropriate to submit an ODYN code reanalysis for Peach Bottom Unit 2 for the remainder of the current operating cycle.
Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Very truly yours, yx wm
