This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Dr. W. J. Adam of this office on August 19, 1981, of activities at Pharmatopes, Inc.
authorized by NRC Byproduct Material License No.34-184S4-01MD and to the discussion of our findings with you at the conclusion of the inspection.
The inspection was an examination of activities conducted under your license as they relate to radiation safety and to compliance with the Cc:wission's rules and regulations and with the conditions of your license.
The 'npec-tion consisted of a selective examination of procedures ami repres.
,) ve records, observations, independent measurements, and interviews with personnel.
During the inspection our inspector expressed concern regarding your method of performing bioassays for iodine-131.
Specifically, the calibration of your sodium iodide counting system appeared to involve a significant vari-ation in geometry which could not be accounted for when counting subjects.
Based on the telephone conversation of September 10, 1981, between you and Dr. W. J. Adam, it is our understanding that you now possess a neck phantom which will be used in the calibration of your I-131 bioas ay system.
If this understanding is incorrect, please notify this office.
No items of noncompliance with NRC requirements were identified dur course of this inspection.
