20555 C0lHENTS ON NUREG 0577

Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

Per our letter of July 2,1980, we were to provide comments by September 1980.

We have reviewed Mr. Milton Levenson's letter of July 22, 1980, concerning proposed EPRI research related to NUREG 0577. Mr. Levenson's letter outlined an alternate approach for demonstrating the adequacy of nuclear support structure.

EPRI further expanded on NUREG 0577 in the August 27, 1980, meeting with the NRC. Alabama Power Company concurs with EPRI's conrnents and also those comments submitted by Westinghouse to Mr. Richard P. Snaider, Generic Issues Branch, NRC, in their letter of August 7, 1980.

Yours very truly, F.
