Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

The unit was in Mode 5, with Power (MWT) = 0, and Load (MWE) = 0.

Description of Occurrence: At 0930 hours0.0108 days <br />0.258 hours <br />0.00154 weeks <br />3.53865e-4 months <br /> on January 9,1978 when performing Surveil-lance Test ST 5081.01, " Diesel Generator Monthly Test", Diesel Generator 1-1 tripped on high crankcase pressure. At 1015 hours0.0117 days <br />0.282 hours <br />0.00168 weeks <br />3.862075e-4 months <br />,,the trip was reset and the Surveillance Test ST 5081.01, was completed at 1255 hours0.0145 days <br />0.349 hours <br />0.00208 weeks <br />4.775275e-4 months <br /> on January 9, 1978.

This did not place the unit in the Action Statement of Technical Specification 3.8.1.2 because the plant was in Mode 5 which requires only one Diesel Generator co be operable for Modes 5'and 6.

. Designation of Apparent Cause of Occurrence:

The cause for the high pressure crank-case trip is attributed to a dirty crankcase vent oil collector.

Analysis of Occurrence: There was no danger to the health and safety of the public or to unit personnel. The Diesel Generator was not required for emergency power during the period of time it was inoperable.

Diesel Generator 1-2 was operable had emergency power been required.

Corrective Action

Under Maintenance Work Order MRO 78-135, Diesel Generator 1-1

crankcase vent oil collector was disassembled and cleaned.

l will be cleaned under Maintenance Work Order 77-2708. To prevent recurrence, cne cleaning of the crankcase vent oil collector has been added to the quarterly diesul generator preventive maintenance program.

Failurs Data: There have been no previous reportable failures of the Diesel Genera-cars caused by high crankcase pressure.
