Roger Hannah, 404-997-4417 Joey Ledford, 404-997-4416 NRC Announces Resident Inspectors at Harris Nuclear Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have announced that John Zeiler is the agencys senior resident inspector and Andy Patz is the resident inspector at Duke Energys Harris nuclear power plant, located near New Hill, N.C., about 20 miles southwest of Raleigh.

Zeiler joined the NRC in 1986 as a reactor engineer in the Region II office in Atlanta. He spent several years as a reactor inspector in the regional office before being named the resident inspector at Dukes Catawba nuclear station near York, S.C. He has also served as a resident inspector at Duke Energys Robinson plant near Hartsville, S.C., and Southern Nuclears Vogtle plant near Waynesboro, Ga.

In 2004, Zeiler became the senior resident inspector at SCE&Gs Summer station near Jenkinsville, S.C. He moved to Dukes McGuire nuclear plant in 2011 and was the NRC senior resident inspector there until his new assignment at the Harris plant.

Zeiler holds a bachelors degree in nuclear engineering and a masters degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

Patz joined the NRC in 2015 as a reactor operations engineer in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation in the NRCs Rockville, Md.,

headquarters. He worked on the performance assessment of operating reactors until he transferred to the Region II office in 2016 to join the Resident Inspector Development Program.

Before joining the NRC, Patz spent five years as a system engineer and emergency response specialist for multiple U.S. Navy submarine classes and land-based reactors at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory.

Patz received a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University.

John Zeilers years of experience and commitment to safety and Andy Patzs background and dedication help ensure the Harris plant meets the stringent NRC requirements designed to protect people near the plant and the environment, said NRC Region II Administrator Cathy Haney.

At least two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to each U.S. commercial nuclear plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at one site for up to seven years.
