SUBJECT: 'RC INSPECTION REPORT 50-387/99-08 AND 50-388/99-08
INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATIONDRY RUN AND
PREPARATIONS
Dear Mr. Byram:
On September 2, 1999, the NRC completed an inspection at your Susquehanna
Steam Electric
Station (SSES) Unit 18 2 reactor facilities on the Independent Spent Fuel Storage installation
(ISFSI) Dry Run and related preparations to move spent fuel from the spent fuel pool to the dry
storage area.
The enclosed report documents the results of the inspection of ISFSI activities by
specialist and resident inspectors during the period of July 6, 1999, until the exit meeting on
September 2, 1999. The inspectors discussed the findings of this inspection with Mr. R.
Saunders, Vice President Nuclear Operations, and others of your staff, at an interim exit
meeting on July 15, 1999 and at the exit meeting.
We concluded
that your staff properly demonstrated the equipment, procedures,
and training of
the ISFSI work team members.
Also, when your staff identified issues or items for improvement
during the dry run exercises, they were appropriately addressed.
