D850813 Honorable Nunzio J. Palladino Chairman U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555
Dear Dr. Palladino:
SUBJECT:
ACRS COMMENTS ON THE INPO PROGRAM ON RADIATION PROTECTION During its 304th meeting, August 8-l0, l985, the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards heard a report from its Subcommittee on Reactor Radiological Effects on the adequacy and success of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) program to assist commercial nuclear power plant licensees in the implementation of improved radiation protection programs. A specific objective of this effort (which was the subject of a meeting of this Subcommittee on July 3l, l985) is to assure the effective application of the ALARA criterion as an important com-ponent of these programs.
On the basis of this report, we conclude that INPO is accomplishing this task in an effective and professional manner. We are favorably im-pressed with the depth and thoroughness of the INPO effort, and with the care they are exercising to assure that the analyses of the responses of the licensees to this effort are unbiased and accurate.
Sincerely, David A. Ward Chairman
