- NON EMERGENCY "At approximately 0820 [EDT], on March 25th, 2013, a live sturgeon was captured from the Salem Unit 1 Circulating Water System (CWS) Intake trash racks at the Salem Generating Station. The sturgeon was confirmed by a site biological expert to be an Atlantic sturgeon, which is an "endangered" species. Atlantic sturgeons are federally listed as "endangered" species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973. as amended. Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this is a 4 hr report to the NRC under RAL11.8.2.a.
"At approximately 0825 [EDT] the sturgeon was released back into the Delaware River following identification.
"A report was made to the NJDEP Division of Fish &. Wildlife, concerning the Atlantic sturgeon at 0953 [EDT] by Environmental Licensing."
The licensee has informed the NRC Resident Inspector.
Notifed R1DO (Krohn) and the Endangered Species Group via email.
