ICNs for NRC review Russ, Below are some of our comments on the set of ICN examples submitted. I also attached three versions of D52 (HFE ICN Example) with staff comments. These 3 ICNs cover three different ITAAC. We appreciate any feedback on the HFE comments as soon as possible since the tech staff will not be available at the Nov. 1 meeting.
D33 Type Test/Analysis to Verify Electrical Isolation
- 1. List the type of isolators
- 2. Define the credible fault
- 3. Define what is the acceptable level of the safety function D36 24-hour Inverter Load Testing No significant Comments D38 Inspection of Available Room Volume It is not conservative to consider spaces containing only piping or cabling as part of the available room volume.
D39 Inspection of RMS Monitors General comment: The ICN should refer to the COL tables and not the DCD tables What information does the nameplate have? Does it list the design description info?
D41 Safety Function on Signal from PMS No significant Comments D46 As-Built Piping Meets Functional Capability Requirements No Significant Comments D52 HFE Verification and Validation Comments marked on example D100 Containment Coating and Transportable Material density No Significant Comments
Component Coatings Section: The title of reference 6 does not match the referenced document listed under References Available for NRC inspection.
Ventilation Filters and Fiber-producing Fire Barriers Section:.personnel confirmed that filters and have a density S1 Site Specific EP No Significant Comment (Define EOF)
S2 Site Specific Security The determination basis references non-public documents without discussing what has actually been completed.
General Comment:
Correct the second sentence under ITAAC Determination Statement to read verified as part of this ITAAC

RE: ICNs for NRC review MJ, Here is the last set of three new ICNs, plus 5 of 6 that have been revised per NRC comments (including D100). I found a glitch in Revised D39 that I need to chase down, so that one is not attached. I will provide it ASAP.
As we discussed, please provide your feedback on these (and S-2) before the November 1 meeting (e.g., by 10/25) so that we can be prepared on Nov. 1 to close the book on the ICN project.

RE: ICNs for Nov. 1 Workshop OK -- with a twist maybe. Our goal is to bring the ICN work to a close by Nov. 1. If we can send you the remaining new and revised ICNs by next week, do you think the staff could provide feedback in advance of the Nov. 1 meeting? We could then make any changes, also before Nov. 1, so that on Nov. 1, the staff could report that the ICN effort is complete. Only thing left would be to roll em all up in NEI 08-01, Rev. 5 (our action),
and (presumably) subsequent NRC confirmatory review.
This plan would need to include staff feedback on ICN S-1 (submitted in August) on physical security at Vogtle 3.
