For Use of Subsequent ASME Code Edition and Addenda The Prairie Island and Monticello Nuclear Generating Plants request approval to use a subsequent ASME Code Edition and Addenda in Accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(4)(iv) for the second IWE interval. The second IWE interval for both sites starts September 9, 2008 and ends September 8, 2018. Both sites had extended the first interval one year to September 8, 2009 as allowed by IWA-2430(d).
- 1. ASME Code Component(s) Affected The affected components are the code class MC metal containment vessels including interior and exterior accessible surfaces, parts, appurtenances, moisture barriers and pressure retaining bolted connections as itemized in table IWE-2500-1.
2. Applicable Code Edition and Addenda
The code and addenda applicable to the containment inservice inspection program (CISI) for the current first interval for both sites is ASME section XI, subsection IWE, 1992 Addenda. The code of record for the current Inservice Inspection Interval for code class 1, 2 and 3 components at each site is the ASME section XI, 2000 Addenda at Prairie Island and ASME section XI, 1996 Addenda at Monticello.
- 3. Proposed Subsequent Code Edition and Addenda (or Portion)
The subsequent code and addenda proposed for the second interval of the CISI program at each site is ASME section XI, subsection IWE, 2003 Addenda. Repair/replacement activities for class MC components, should they be required, would be performed under the ASME section XI, 2003 Addenda at Prairie Island and the ASME section XI, 2001 Addenda at Monticello in accordance with each sites current repair/replacement program.
The ASME section XI, subsection IWE, 2003 Addenda will be applied to the class MC components for each site.
