SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF THE MAY 17, 2005 MEETING WITH LASALLE COUNTY STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 TO DISCUSS LASALLE COUNTY STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 PERFORMANCE On May 17, 2005, a public meeting was held at the Brookfield Township Hall, between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and LaSalle County Station staff. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss NRCs assessment of LaSalle County Station, Units 1 and 2 performance for the period of January 1, 2004, through December 31, 2004.

During the NRC presentation, an overall assessment of LaSalle County Stations performance was provided. As explained in the Annual Assessment letter from NRC to you dated March 2, 2005, (ADAMS accession number ML050620430), LaSalle County Station operated in a manner that preserved public health and safety, and fully met all cornerstone objectives.

Following our presentation, Ms. Susan Landahl, Site Vice President LaSalle County Station, stated that LaSalle County Station was continuing to improve in the area of human performance; including control of contractors during outages and enhancements in supervisor oversight and staff mentoring in the field. Ms. Landahl also stated that human performance at LaSalle County Station was not where it needed to be, and that additional initiatives would be used to improve performance in this area.

Before adjourning the meeting, the NRC provided the opportunity for members of the public to ask questions. There were no questions from members of the public.

The meeting attendance list is enclosed. The slides presented by the NRC are available in ADAMS (accession number ML051430368). Please contact me at (630) 829-9629, if there are any questions you have about this meeting.
