CLARIFICATION TO GENERIC LETTER 2004-02 RESPONSE

References:

(1) Letter from PSEG to NRC: "Updated Response to Generic Letter 2004-02 and Request for Extension for Insulation Replacement, Salem Nuclear Generating Station - Unit 2, Docket No. 50-311, Facility Operating License DPR-75," dated June 7, 2006 In our updated response to GL 2004-02 (Reference 1), PSEG provided additional information on the new sump strainer design. One element of the design information provided (strainer surface area) has changed based on further: design refinements.

Reference 1 stated that the new strainer surface area would be approximately 5300 sq ft. Upon further review and evaluation, PSEG has determined that the total strainer surface area for Salem Unit 2 will be 4,656 sq ft instead of our stated approximately 5300 sq ft. This change accommodates actual plant layout conditions and additional design refinement.

The change in strainer surface area has no impact on our GL 2004 response. The revised final surface area of 4656 sq ft is adequate for the expected results from the remaining testing associated with GSI-191 requirements.

If you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Jamie Mallon at (610) 765-5507.
