Docket, Nos.

50-335 and 50-389 Regulatory Guide 1.97 Proposed Modification Wide Ran e Steam Generator Level Instrument By Letter, L-92-28 dated February 10, 1992, Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) provided plans and schedules for upgrading the environmental qualification of the existing wide range steam generator level (WRSGL) instruments and the installation of redundant WRSGL instruments on St.

Lucie Units 1

and 2.

NRC concurred with the FPL plans and schedules by letter dated February 12(

1992

't the time of our February 10, 1992 letter, FPL was formulating plans for the replacement of the Unit 1 steam generators and the inclusion of the independent lower instrument tap nozzles as part of the replacement design.

FPL retained the option to combine the installation of the redundant WRSGL instruments with the steam generator replacement if the commitment was within one outage of the steam generator replacement.

FPL has decided to exercise this option and to install the redundant WRSGL instruments with the steam generator replacement.

The steam generator replacement is planned for the Cycle 15 refueling outage and is currently scheduled to begin in January 1998.

Therefore, FPL now plans to complete the installation of the redundant WRSGL instrument on St. Lucie Unit 1 within sixty days after start up from the cycle 15 refueling outage.

In accordance with our previous plans and schedules, FPL has completed upgrading the environmental qualification of the existing WRSGL instrument components located in potentially harsh environments for both units and plans to install the redundant WRSGL instruments on St. Lucie Unit 2 during the Fall 1995 outage.
