SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE DOCKET NO ~

50-335 UNIT St. Lucie 1

DATE UH 1 8 199'OMPLETED BX Z.Z. Breen TELEPHONE 407 465-3550 REPORT MONTH MAY 1991 On May 5, 1991, Unit 1 began a controlled shutdown for control rod testing.

Power was then held at 33%

for Transmission and Distribution(T&D) troubleshooting of voltage readings; the Unit then continued to decrease in power for control rod testing until it was taken offline. Control rod testing was completed on May 6,

1991, and Unit 1 began to increase in power.

At approximately 454 power a hold was placed upon the Unit for a Nuclear Instrumentation Calibration. At 98% of full power the reactor was manually tripped in response to a runback initiated by the 1A Main Feedwater Pump.

The Unit was returned to power following corrective actions to the 5A feedwater heater level switch and the main feedwater pump low pressure trip setpoint.

The Unit had hold points at approximately 704 and 80%

to monitor the 1A Heater Drain Pump and ASI stabilization.

On May 9,

1991, Unit 1 reached 1004 power and remained there until May 30, 1991.

On May 30,

1991, Unit 1 reduced power to approximately 70% for cleaning of the lA2

& 1B2 waterboxes.

Due to a need for electrical power Unit 1 was increased to approximately 904 power, and then lowered again to 70% for completion of waterbox cleaning.

In accordance with the requirements of Technical Specification 6.9.1.6, there were no challenges to the PORVs or safety valves during the report period.
