Enclosed is the May 2005 NPDES Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) for FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC), Beaver Valley Power Station, in accordance with the requirements of the permit. Attachment 1 to this letter are supplemental monitoring data for Outfall 001 (dissolved oxygen).
A review of the reported data indicates that the monthly average for total suspended solids (TSS) at Internal Monitoring Point (IMP) 413 was exceeded. Please see Attachment 2 to this letter for a description and corrective actions taken.

Beaver Valley Power Station ATTACHMENT 2 TSS Monthly Averane Exceeded at Outfall/IMP 413 The monthly average limit for Total Suspended Solids (TSS) of 30 mg/I was exceeded for the month of May 2005 with a calculated average of 38 mg/I. The maximum daily limit of 100 mg/I was not exceeded. The condition was documented and investigated in the FENOC Problem Identification and Resolution Program under Condition Report CR-05-004046.
This outfall/IMP is a water/oil separator installed as an oil pollution prevention contingency. Flow only occurs during rain or snow melt events. The one and only source drain is at the bottomi of a slope. Part of the TSS problem was identified as dirt and other materials that had been carried toward the drain during the previous rain events. Part of the problem was identified as a rusty pipe between the drain and the water/oil separator. The corrective actions included cleaning the drain and separator out, and initiating a work request to repair or replace the rusty pipe. The initial action worked to bring the TSS down from the high of 53 mg/l to 23 mg/l. However, the average remained above 30 mg/i due to fewer sampling events because of no flow identified late in the month.
