SUBJECT:

Emergency Response Data System (ERDS) Changes Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station Docket No. 50-271 License No. DPR-28

Dear Sir or Madam:

In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50, Appendix E, Section VI.3, Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc (ENO) is submitting this letter to provide notification of changes to the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station (VYNPS) emergency response data system (ERDS) link software scheduled to be implemented August 24, 2011. Notification is required 30 days prior to any hardware or software changes that could affect the transmission format or computer communication protocol to the ERDS.

These changes will involve a conversion from a dial-up modem-based system to a more reliable internet-based system using a plant information server and NRC-supplied virtual private network (VPN) appliance. The NRC ERDS resource desk was notified of this change via email dated April 30, 2011.

During implementation of this change, the existing ERDS link will remain available and will not affect the plant's ability to activate the existing ERDS link, if required. Subsequent to implementation, VYNPS intends to maintain the existing link to our Simulator for use during drills, until such time as it is replaced by an internet-based system.

This letter contains no new commitments and no revisions to existing commitments.

Should you have any questions or require additional information concerning this submittal, please contact me at 802-451-3166.

Sincerely,

[RJW/PLC]
