American Electric Power Company Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant Groundwater Pennit No. GWI810102
Dear Ms. Klang:
Indiana Michigan Power Cook Nuclear Plant One Cook Place Bridgman, MI 49106 IndianaMichiganPower.com This notification is made pursuant to Cook Nuclear Plant's Groundwater Permit GW1810102, Part I.11.b, Compliance Requirements.
On August 2, 2019, we became aware of a noncompliance for mercury concentration at monitoring well I A. The mercury concentration was confinned to be 4.1 ng/1, which exceeds the permit limit of 1.3 ng/1 (0.0013 ug/1). Well IA is located southeast of the plant's rapid infiltration basin, and is the closest monitoring well to this discharge point.
Upgradient well mercury concentrations ranged from 0.8 to 1.3 ng/1, which likely contributes to the noncompliance issue.- Other downgradient wells in our program are within permit limits for mercury.
As required by Part 1.11.c, we have scheduled a resample of this monitoring well within the next 14 days (due date August 16, 2019).
As required by Part I.11.d, we will submit a written report to the Kalamazoo Office within 60 days ( due date October 1, 2019).
If you have any questions, please contact me at (269) 465-5901, ext. 2810.
Sincerely, Michael K McCarthy Chemistry Manager c:
