Dear Sir:
The purpose of this letter is to provide supplemental information to the referenced Relief Request 03-0001-RR. This information is being submitted as a result of telephone conferences held with the NRC staff. The information previously submitted in the Basis for Relief,Section IV.2.d regarding measurement of interpass temperature is being revised. Measurement of preheat and interpass temperature will be accomplished as follows:
Preheat and interpass temperatures for the weld pad will be measured using a contact pyrometer.
Interpass temperature will be monitored for the first three layers of each repair. On the first repair location, the interpass temperature measurements will be taken every three to five passes.
Subsequent repair locations will monitor interpass temperature every six to ten passes.
