.I Mr. James P. O'Reilly LER No.82-029 Page Two November 23, 1982 DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EVENT During the performance of NI-44 Power Range Operational Test (STP-302.041) on October 25, 1982, the Isolation Amplifier Resistor Input was found to be slightly out of tolerance.

The Plant was in Mode 2, and Zero Power Testing nas in progress at the time.

The channel was declared inoperable per Technical Specification 3 3.1, Action Statement 2.

PROBABLE CONSEQUENCES No adverse consequences existed prior to or af ter discovery of the out-of-tolerance condition because:

a) Isolation Amplifier Drif t only affected remote indication, and all of the channel safety functions were operable.

b) Three (3) operable NI Power Channels remained in service until the restoration of NI-44.

CAUSE(S) 0F THE OCCURRENCE The cause of this occurrence is attributed to Instrument Drif t.

IMMEDIATE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TAKEN 4

Power Range Channel NI-44 was calibrated by the Instrumentation Group by means of Surveillance Test Procedure (STP) 310.008.

The channel was returned to operable status on October 27, 1982.

ACTION TAKEN TO PREVENT RECURRENCE No further action other than the normal surveillance testing is planned by the licensee.
