This report was initiated by Incident Report 81-219.

CONDITIONS PRIOR TO OCCURRENCE:

Mode 1 - Rx Power 25% - Unit Load 260 MWe DESCRIFTION OF OCCURRENCE:

On June 27, 1981, the Radiation Monitoring System suction pump for Unit 2 containment tripped its thermal overloads, causing a low flow condition in the 2RllA and 2R12A monitors.

The monitors were declared inoperable, and action statements 3.3.3.1 and 3.4.7.1 were entered at 0222 1;ours, June 27, 1981.

This occurrence constituted operation in a degraded mode in accordance-j with technical specification 6.9.1.9.b.

DESIGNATION OF APPARENT CAUSE OF OCCURRENCE:

Equipment failure.

The suction pump for the Radiation Monitoring i

System tripped its thermal-overloads'due toian: excessively'highgn-suction vacuum setting of 7.5 inches of water.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

The action requirements for technical specification 3.4.7 were complied with.

The suction pump thermal overloads were reset, and the vecuum setting was reset to that of 5 inches of water.

The pump was tested satisfactorily and returned to service.

Action Statements 3.3.3.1 and 3.4.7.1 were terminated at 0815, June 27, 1981.
