Intermediate Range Detector - Inoperable.

This report was initiated by Incident Report 81-423.

CONDITIONS PRIOR TO OCCURRENCE:

Mode 1 - Rx Power 98% - Unit Load 1040 MWe DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:

At 1710 hours0.0198 days <br />0.475 hours <br />0.00283 weeks <br />6.50655e-4 months <br />, October 25, 1981, the Control Operator noticed that the Intermediate Range Detector N-36 had failed.

The level trip switch for this channel was placed in the bypass position, and Action Statement 3.3.1.3.c was entered.

This occurrence constituted operation in a degraded mode in accordance with Technical Specification 6.9.1.9.b.

DESIGNATION OF APPARENT CAUSE OF OCCURRENCE:

The cause was a failure of the detector high voltage power supply.

ANALYSIS OF OCCURRENCE:

Technical Specification 3.3.1.3.c requires:

With the number of channels operable one less than required by the minimum channels operable require-ment and with the thermal power level above 5% of rated thermal power, power operation may continue.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

High voltage power supply was replaced and tested satisfactorily, and at 2115 hours0.0245 days <br />0.588 hours <br />0.0035 weeks <br />8.047575e-4 months <br />, October 27, 1981, Action Statement 3.3.1.3.c was terminated.
